The hit Dekkoo Original Series, Danny Will Die Alone, is back with a highly anticipated second season. Building on the success of the first, creator, writer, and star Jack Tracy takes viewers on another laugh-out-loud journey, diving deeper into the complexities of modern dating with a signature blend of outrageous comedy and emotional depth.
For fellow fans of the show, be sure to expect more of Danny’s wild escapades, covering all too real situations such as polyamory, the concept of being a “side,” open couples, and even some more taboo topics like fisting and exploring gender norms. Sounds like a wild ride to us!
Speed dating with Jack Tracy
(Okay maybe it’s an interview……)
GURL: First things first you handsome devil, how has life been since you first appeared on our various sizes of screen?
Jack: Busy! Right around the time that season 1 premiered I was just handing in the final edited episodes for season 2. After that I needed a break so took the summer off before prepping my next album, Glorify, which will be coming out next year. Right now there are two singles out; Duality and Overdrive (Remaster), that should give you an idea of what to expect. Expect some music videos to start dropping in November.
GURL: Which of the conquests from season 1 would have been closest to your personal taste in real life?
Jack: Looks wise, probably DJ, the hipster from episode 2, but personality wise, none of them. I generally like a more reserved, chill vibe kinda guy with a dirty side. Cute and shy in public, master in the bedroom.
GURL: Is a lot of what we see in the series a direct result of personal experience?
Jack: Absolutely. Every date you see is based off of one of my many (many) dates over the last two decades. Some are more embellished and exaggerated, some are straight re-enactments. It’s been a wild ride.
GURL: Which of the many apps is your favourite IRL?
Jack: Honestly I just got into Facebook dating and there seem to be many more matches there than any of the others. Unfortunately the men who are the best matches seem to live in New Hampshire or DC or Boston so I’ve been giving serious consideration to moving. NYC doesn’t seem to have what I’m looking for.
GURL: Have you found that a lot of fellow queer folk resonate with the all too real struggles and typical experiences that Danny goes through in each episode?
Jack: Absolutely. All of the feedback I’ve been getting from viewers is that they recognize a lot of the types of guys that Danny goes on dates with. I was kind of worried about what the response to the show would be as Danny himself is quite judgmental–far more than I am–and lacks any amount of tact, but much to my surprise people seem to relate to, and root for, Danny. I didn’t think he was very sympathetic but am happy other people find him to be.
GURL: Season 2 is coming (and cumming) in November, can you spill any exclusive tea on what to expect?
Jack: We are now half hour episodes with a plot line that carries through the entire season, which means the introduction of new lead character Matty, played by Jordan Bell. Paralegal Kyle and best friend Sally also return for some hijinks as well. I would say to expect the same in terms of a bad date each episode, but also a little bit of heart that we didn’t really have in season one.
GURL: Do you have a favourite memory from filming the sophomore season?
Jack: We filmed all six episodes over 10, 12-hour days so it all kind of mushes together. And because I’m the director and lead actor I am usually all over the place and don’t really get time to enjoy the experience as I’m always putting out fires as they arise. But I will say that the scenes I enjoyed the most were the ones with Matty as my chemistry with Jordan was pretty fantastic. Danny finally has a foil and our arguments are pretty fun.
GURL: Will we potentially be going for round 3?
Jack: Scripts written, filming next year. 🙂
GURL: Alongside being a YouTube sensation you’re also a musician, when did you first discover you had musical talent?
Jack: I was always involved in music in school–chorus, vocal ensemble, band, musicals–and actually went to college for musical theater because of course I did. When I filmed my first series, History, I needed background music and so taught myself how to make instrumentals on my computer. I loved some of what I came up with and so decided to turn them into original songs and the rest is history.
GURL: Is there anyone in particular that inspires you when creating music?
Jack: I’m a Janet Jackson superfan, so she’s always top of mind, but typically any of the R&B stars of the 90s. TLC, Monica, Brandy, Aaliyah, Missy…that’s where my music springs from, with just a dash of Prince.
GURL: Do you have any other potentially hidden talents that we need to be aware of?
Jack: Well I’m an enormous Star Trek fan and I actually opened up an Etsy shop where I sell custom figures that I sculpt for collectors. And let me tell you, it’s far more lucrative than the music.
GURL: Just for fun and to quench some thirst, can you share your favourite hoe pic of yourself from your gallery?
Jack: I don’t really do thirst traps–I’ve never liked how I photograph and find myself more “cute” than “sexy”. But here’s the sauciest one from my dating apps.
GURL: Do you have any advice that you could offer to younger queer men starting on their journey of sexual discovery?
Jack: Communicate. Set your boundaries and get the other person’s and be clear. If the person breaks one, stop immediately–that means they don’t respect you and thus disqualify themselves from being able to be intimate with you. And consent can be revoked at any time–you don’t owe anyone anything.
GURL: Finally, tell us everything you want ourselves and our followers to check out, get that self promo moment!
Jack: In addition to season 2 of Danny Will Die Alone coming to Dekkoo on November 14, you can check out my new singles “Duality” and “Overdrive (Remaster)” out now wherever you stream music. You can listen to my podcast “Dying Alone, Together” where I give behind the scenes info and generally just talk some shit about dating.
