You know what we could all do with? A good old laugh!
Thankfully, we have just the thing, or rather the fabulous Jessie Nixon does. You may recognize this absolute queen from BBC One, BBC Three or as part of the tour support for Fern Brady, Helen Bauer and Lou Sanders (come on, that’s quite a resume already let’s be real).
Fresh from a five-star, award-winning run at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe along with being nominated for Ish Comedy Awards Best Newcomer and the Chortle Comedians’ Comedian Award, she’s keeping things going with another handful of UK tour dates that prove she’s here to cause chaos for the long-term.
In this particular show, Jessie is putting her life on the line, or at least her livelihood/self-esteem anyway. She’s ripped out her heart, covered it in glitter and squirty cream, then offered it up to you, still beating. Doesn’t that sounds delicious? Now don’t make her regret it!
If you’re mentally ill, a lapsed catholic, queer, occasionally distraught, too smart for your own good or have ever cried in a changing room: this is for you.
Don’t just take our word for it though, why not hear from the lady of the hour herself?
Who are your biggest comedy inspirations?
Hmm always such a tough one! The first stand-up DVDs I bought ‘for my mum’ for her Christmas present (lol) were Dara O’Brien and Ed Byrne. But once I was a bit more initiated and knew about female comics I fell hopelessly in love with Maria Bamford. Then once I got an even more granular idea of the comics on the circuit my favourites became comics like Fern Brady, Lou Sanders and Helen Bauer. That’s why the fact I’ve done tour support for those three feels like an insane fantasy come true.
Tell us all about your first experience with stand up?
Having done a lot with the theatrical society at my uni but been basically too tall and weird to get lead roles, I joined comedy society (tagging along with the darling of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Kate Butch, who was in my year). I got the bug immediately, went back to Bristol and started doing open mics. Then, only a few international wars, a recession and a global pandemic later, here I am!
Have you got a particular fond memory from previous touring?
Gurl, this is my first tour!!!! I’ve only done a couple of dates so far, but two of them were in Utrecht which was absolutely phenomenal. I have a lot of time for Dutch people, and they are quite hot and tall, so safe to say a good time was had.
What can we expect from the “Don’t make me regret this” tour?
ENERGY! I am going to be talking FAST, and running around and there are a LOT of jokes in the show. You can expect to find at least 30% of them funny, I wager. Besides that you can expect to feel like we are friends by the end, and hopefully to feel like you’ve seen yourself somewhere in the show. That’s what I want, anyway.
Is there any material in the set that you feel is a bit risky?
Hahahah…. Yes…. 😉
If you bring your comedy to any city in the world that you haven’t already visited, what is the first choice?
Ok well brag alert incoming but I am touring New Zealand and Australia later in the year which would’ve been my first answer. I would maybe say the US, as the home of so many great standups… but I am not setting foot there until the p**do c*** is out of office, so maybe let’s say Canada!
What is your favourite dirty joke of all time?
Why did the walrus go to the tupperware party?
To find a tight seal!
